The statement on his resignation by the former DND OIC shows discontent within the military. He says he was not informed that a new AFP Chief of Staff had been selected and taken his oath in Malacanang. What does he mean when he says he cannot allow the AFP’s reputation to be “tarnished, maligned and politicized?” Is he referring to in-fighting among the different factions of the ruling Marcos clique? There seems to be intense rivalry for positions of power as the Marcos regime tries to consolidate its rule during its first year in office. As the crisis worsens, the drive to secure more advantages for the elite factions in power will surely intensify. The cracks have manifested very early on in the term of Marcos, Jr.
