On Marcos’ ratings drop: PUBLIC ANGER IS MORE PALPABLE ON THE GROUND

There’s no surprise in the ratings drop of President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong” Marcos Jr and Vice President Sara Duterte. It reflects rising public dissatisfaction and outrage over the failure of the government to address the people’s urgent needs while those in power indulge in junket trips and anomalous confidential funds.

Over the past three months, Marcos has been promoting the interest of foreign powers instead of focusing on improving the conditions of the working classes. He has been in five foreign lavish trips, he endorsed the so-called economic Charter Change that will allow foreigners to expand their control and ownership of land and domestic industries, and he has shamelessly offered the country’s territory as an extension of the United States military network.

Marcos has been actively enforcing the agenda of big business and imperialists while more Filipinos continue to suffer from insecure jobs, stagnant wages, and cost of living crisis. In rural areas, state forces are terrorizing communities opposed to foreign-owned mining, logging, and plantation companies.

The frustration, anger, and disgust of our people are more visible on the ground and in communities where joblessness abounds and access to basic social services is negligible. Marcos wants more foreign big businesses to plunder our economy and resources. His pivot to the US has meant intensified military interventionism and basing of US armed forces and war materiel in our territory. Marcos plays deaf to the people’s clamor for higher wages, lower prices of goods, and decent jobs. #
