The Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN) condemns the United States and Israel for repeatedly undermining efforts toward a ceasefire and negotiated settlement with Iran, with their renewed attacks pushing the region closer to an even wider and more destructive war.
The latest US attacks on Iran constitute a renewed escalation of an illegal and immoral war of aggression that violates international law, destabilizing an already volatile region. These military actions threaten to intensify a conflict whose consequences are already felt far beyond West Asia.
At a time when millions of people worldwide are already burdened by rising costs of living, the reckless escalation by the US risks triggering a full-blown global economic and political crisis anew.
This renewed war also heightens the danger of a broader confrontation among major powers, particularly endangering smaller countries like the Philippines that host US military troops, bases, and facilities.
With the US diverting more military resources to West Asia while aiming to expand its military buildup in the Asia-Pacific, the Philippines is increasingly being asked to play a bigger role in the US’s first island chain strategy to contain China. This draws us more and more into brewing conflict between these contending powers.
BAYAN calls on the US to immediately cease its war of aggression on Iran, respect international law, and earnestly return to the path of diplomacy and negotiations. The international community must act with urgency to prevent further escalation and to uphold peace based on respect for national sovereignty, the peaceful settlement of disputes, and the fundamental rights of all peoples.
Bayan demands that the Marcos Jr. regime adhere to a truly independent foreign policy rather than kowtowing to US dictates. Bayan warns about the threat to national sovereignty, peace, and people’s welfare of the expansive US military presence and activities enabled by the puppet Marcos regime.
The Filipino people stand in solidarity with all peoples resisting war, aggression, and imperialist intervention. Lasting peace cannot be achieved through bombs and military intimidation but through justice, mutual respect, and adherence to international law.
