The stunning defeat of Donald Trump’s Republican Party in Tuesday’s US midterm elections is a powerful boost to the “Trump Out” campaign against the US president’s visit to the Philippines on November 16-17.
The Democratic Party’s landslide victory, wresting control of both Houses of Congress and defeating Republicans even in traditional strongholds like Texas, Kansas, and South Carolina, is a resounding repudiation of Trump and his rule.
The election results reflect the growing disgust and rejection by the American people of Trump’s corrupt. authoritarian, war mongering, racist, anti-immigrant and over all anti-people policies. They show that even in his own country, Trump faces mounting opposition to his disastrous leadership.
For Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN), the American people’s rejection of Trump strengthens our resolve to mobilize thousands of Filipinos against his upcoming visit. We stand in solidarity with the American people who are resisting Trump’s attacks on their democratic rights, livelihoods, and welfare. They see through his collusion with his big corporate backers to enrich himself. They oppose his war on Iran and belligerence towards other countries’ sovereignty.
Trump is not only a menace to the American people. His wars of aggression, military interventions, economic sanctions, and support for Israel’s genocide in Gaza have brought untold suffering to peoples across the world.
In the Philippines, Trump and his puppet Ferdinand Marcos Jr. are turning our country into a forward military base and staging ground for US aggression in the Asia Pacific. Through expanded US military facilities and the contentious Pax Silica project, they are riding roughshod over Philippine sovereignty, plundering our natural and economic resources, undermining our people’s security, rights and welfare to serve US geopolitical and military industrial complex interests.
The Filipino people join the American people in rejecting the fascist Trump regime and its policies. We continue to struggle against US imperialism and all its destructive effects in the US and abroad.
Trump is not welcome in the Philippines, too! Trump Out!
