BAYAN ON QUAD RECOMMENDATION: ARREST DUTERTE NOW!
The Quad committee recommendation to file criminal charges against Rodrigo Duterte and his henchmen should be urgently pursued in the interest of justice. It confirms that there is basis to prosecute Duterte at the International Criminal Court for committing crimes against humanity.
Relatives of Tokhang victims were among those who testified in the Quad and gave face to the brutal enforcement of Duterte’s fake ‘war on drugs’. They were joined by families of activists who were also murdered by state forces under the Duterte presidency. The Quad’s final committee report should also include the notorious officers responsible for the Bloody Sunday massacre and other cases of extrajudicial killings.
The House of Representatives should expand its probe and look into how the gruesome cases of killings and the weaponization of the bureaucracy to demonize and kill suspects and so-called enemies of the state have continued under the current administration.
The involvement of Bato dela Rosa and Bong Go in the Duterte “criminal enterprise” is a reminder that the two apologists and Tokhang enforcers do not deserve to remain in the Senate and their candidacy for reelection should be strongly rejected.
The progress report of the Quad should be another reason for the Marcos Jr government to cooperate with the ICC and ensure that solid pieces of evidence are obtained and witnesses are assisted to expedite the prosecution and the release of an arrest warrant against Duterte and other members of his criminal gang.
The Quad’s job is not finished, and the people will continue to fight for justice and hold all officials accountable for the extrajudicial killings under the Duterte and Marcos Jr administrations.
