Bayan to Comelec: Junk fake people’s initiative
Bagong Alyansang Makabayan joined citizen election watchdogs and anti-fraud advocates in a protest in front of the Commission on Elections to pursue accountability for the glitches, anomalies, and automated tampering of results in the 2022 elections. Bayan asserts that Comelec should address these issues instead of legitimizing the fake people’s initiative for charter change.
Bayan challenged Comelec to decisively reject the fake PI by returning or throwing away the signatures submitted to its office. These signatures were gathered through dubious means by deceiving the people and using government resources.
Bayan warned that the aggressive push for the fake PI could lead to a no-election scenario if charter change is pursued and extend the term of elected officials. The Comelec would be complicit in the malicious maneuver of politicians if it continues to waver on whether it will verify the fake PI signatures.
It should be equally decisive in probing the questionable IP address used in the 2022 election and in junking the fake PI signatures.
Bayan recalls that in 1986, widespread election cheating triggered mass outrage which led to the People Power uprising. The fake PI and the no-election plot could ignite the same indignation among our people who are already outraged over high prices, corruption in the bureaucracy, low wages, and human rights abuses.
