End the harassment against Ka Daning Ramos
Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) condemns the continuing harassment against Danilo “Ka Daning” Ramos, chairperson of peasant organization Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas. Ka Daning, a longtime activist and advocate of genuine land reform, is also a national council member of Bayan.
Ka Daning has faced constant persecution from landgrabbers and state forces who are brutally perpetuating the feudal and semi-feudal exploitation in the country. Those who are enforcing and enabling the oppression of farmers are behind the recurring harassment and surveillance operations against Ka Daning in his home in Malolos.
The intent of those who terror-tagged Ka Daning is to demonize him, undermine and criminalize his activism, and could be a prelude to more intensified attacks against him and other land rights advocates. We hold the government of Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos accountable for any harm done against Ka Daning. The government claim that freedom of expression is being upheld is belied by the nonstop attacks directed against activists, state critics, and human rights defenders, including the documented harassment against Ka Daning.
Ka Daning is a patriot and well-respected leader of Bayan. He devoted his life serving the farmers and the oppressed sectors of society by fighting for the people’s national democratic interests. We call on freedom-loving Filipinos to speak out and join Ka Daning in pushing back against state harassment. Bayan calls for greater vigilance and militancy in defending the people’s rights.
