END US SURVEILLANCE OPERATIONS IN THE PHILIPPINES
The recent crash of a US-contracted surveillance plane in a rice field in Maguindanao del Sur is a clear warning of the dangers of US militarism in the Asia-Pacific region. This incident shows how US war-mongering, aimed at encircling China’s expanding influence, directly undermines regional stability. It also demonstrates that 90 years of US military oversight of the Philippine military, with the perpetual promise of increased capability, results in crash landings while the entire nation is being dragged into US endless wars.
At the minimum, the nature of this surveillance operation should be probed and the findings made public. How many operations were approved by the government and under what agreement. Why was there an operation in Mindanao when the supposed hotspot is in the WPS?
Authorities have been raising the threat of Chinese incursions yet we have been allowing US troops and US military forces to roam across the country and turn our entire territory into an area of US military operations.
The biggest threat to our security is the expanding US military presence in the country. We reiterate our call for the expulsion of US military forces and the scrapping of onerous military deals with the US.
