On the Acquittal of Juan Ponce Enrile and Janet Napoles for Plunder
The Bagong Alyansang Makabayan strongly denounces the Sandiganbayan’s decision to acquit Juan Ponce Enrile and Janet Napoles of plunder charges in relation to the PDAF pork barrel scam. This decision is a grave injustice and a blow to the Filipino people’s fight against corruption. It undermines years of efforts to hold powerful officials like Enrile, and fixers like Napoles, accountable for robbing the nation of billions meant for the public good.
It is outrageous that hundreds of millions of Enrile’s PDAF were plundered through Napoles’ ghost projects yet no one gets punished. Baka sa huli ang sisihin pa dito yung mga pekeng members ng mga ghost NGO ni Napoles.
The acquittal sends a dangerous message: that those in power can evade justice with impunity while ordinary citizens suffer the consequences of corruption.
This is the same Enrile that was never held accountable for his central role in the systemic corruption and gross human rights violations of the Marcos dictatorship, allowing him to reinvent himself and maneuver into the Senate presidency years later.
This travesty of justice gives us more reason to fight corruption and the bureaucrat capitalist system that breeds it. The struggle for accountability and good governance continues.#
