Surface Eco Dangla and Axielle Tiong
Bagong Alyansang Makabayan condemns the abduction of youth activists Francisco “Eco” Dangla III and Axielle “Jak” Tiong in San Carlos, Pangasinan.
Eco is a leader of Bayan Pangasinan and coordinator of Makabayan. Eco and Axielle are both environmental defenders and volunteer church workers. Both have been actively raising awareness about the impact of coal-fired power plants and offshore mining.
This is already the 8th case of abduction targeting activists and human rights defenders in Central Luzon and Pangasinan. It reflects the worsening state of human rights under the government of Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr, which continues to silence criticisms against its anti-people programs and policies.
We hold the government accountable for any harm done to Eco and Axielle. We demand that the two activists be returned safely to their families and kasamas.
We call on the people to provide any relevant information about this case. We enjoin all advocates of civil liberties to denounce this latest attack on the human rights community and to put pressure on authorities to immediately release Eco and Axielle.
