Bagong Alyansang Makabayan vehemently condemns the continued unjust imprisonment of community journalist Frenchie Mae Cumpio and development workers Marielle Domequil and Alexander Philip “Chakoy” Abinguña!. As they face a crucial promulgation hearing on January 22, we stand in unwavering solidarity with the global call for their immediate acquittal and freedom.
Ang ikulong ay ang mga nasasangkot sa isyu ng korapsyon at hindi ang lumalaban dito. The true criminals are those who plunder the nation’s coffers, who implement anti-people budgets while prices soar, and who escape accountability. Yet, it is the brave voices who expose these injustices—like Frenchie Mae, Marielle, and Chakoy—who are illegally arrested and slapped with fabricated charges by the state. Like Amanda Echanis before them, they are victims of a systematic policy of silencing dissent.
For over 2,000 days, as documented by media watchdogs and human rights groups, Frenchie Mae has been unjustly detained. This is not justice; this is state-sponsored persecution aimed at silencing dissent. Their case is a stark reminder of the fascist attacks during the previous Duterte administration and the continuing tyrannical acts under the Marcos Jr. administration against activists, journalists, and human rights defenders.
Sa panahon ngayon, na tuloy-tuloy ang pagtaas ng bilihin, badyet na kontra-mamamayan, at walang nananagot sa kurapsyon, maraming Frenchie Mae ang magsusulat para malaman ng mamamayan at kumilos ito! The people need more truth-tellers, not fewer. The dismissal of the previous murder case against Cumpio reveals the flimsy, manufactured nature of these accusations. All remaining charges must be thrown out.
We call on all freedom-loving Filipinos and the international community to amplify the demand:
